We’ve been feasting on figs from our neighbours' fig tree in Grau d’Agde down in the Languedoc this weekend - all the more satisfying as I gather that back home Waitrose is currently selling them at 99p each.

Maybe the best front-of-the-telly snack idea I’ve come across this Christmas: French fries with caviar and crème fraiche dip @bebebob. Which of course makes it spendy for a snack but you could pull the same trick with lumpfish roe. The schnitzel would be a bit more of a hassle to make at home but it was very very good. Add a glass (or two) of champagne and the top notch company of @thaneeprince and you have the perfect Christmas lunch. Also an utterly dreamy plate of ricotta and cavolo nero agnolotti with pumpkin and sage butter under a billowy cloud of parmesan. (The pasta is always worth ordering but enough for two if you have other dishes so I’d share.) Incredibly talented @ermosug of @sugruesouthdowns. Hard to explain exactly what it tastes like - almost like clotted cream but lush and lemony with incredible acidity. Even better the second day. Like a mature grand cru Chablis.
